Extension Cuenca - 4 Days/3 Nights
Visit the country’s prettiest colonial city. After breakfast let its cobblestone streets, graceful wrought-iron balconies, and flowered plazas captivate you. Visit the Central Bank Museum, which has permanent archaeological, ethnographic, colonial and republican art collections, as well as old photographs of Cuenca. After this visit, we’ll go to the Conceptas Monastery. The cloister, built between 1682 and 1729, was recently restored. The cloister contains an unusual collection of religious art.

 

Day 01 - Fly from Quito to Cuenca. Visit the country’s prettiest colonial city with cobblestone streets, graceful wrought-iron balconies, and flowered plazas captivate you. Visit the Central Bank Museum, which has permanent archaeological, ethnographic, colonial and republican art collections, as well as old photographs of Cuenca. Afterwards visit Conceptas Monastery. The cloister, built between 1682 and 1729, was recently restored. The cloister contains an unusual collection of religious art. Visiting a straw-hat export enterprise is scheduled in the afternoon. Day 02 - Less than one hour away from Cuenca lies Gualaceo. The town is located on the banks of the Gualaceo River in a subtropical valley. Both Gualaceo and Chordeleg are famous for their handicrafts. Chordeleg is a pre-Inca town with craftsmen of all kinds: Panama hat makers, basket weavers, embroiderers, potters, and jewelers. In Chordeleg there are pre-Inca ruins, including an enormous snake-shaped stone walkway near the town’s entrance. The tour provides fascinating insights into Andean culture, customs and countryside.(BL)
Day 03 - Departure from Cuenca to El Cajas National Park. Perfect for nature lovers: hiking and birdwatching. There are 152 species of birds in El Cajas, known for its beautiful landscapes and at least 200 lakes like the famous La Toreadora. Transfer back to Cuenca.(BL)
Day 04 - Day at leisure. Return to Quito or Guayaquil. (B)
