Inca Footsteps - 18 Days/ 17 Nights
This is a very comprehensive program, which takes you to the marvelous ancient Andean cultures of Peru. Starting from Chiclayo, on the northern region visit the Lord of Sipan, Tucume and Bruning Museum. Head to Trujillo and tour Chan-Chan, Pyramids of the Sun & Moon. Fly to Cuzco and see the local ruins of Cuzco and the spectacular citadel of Machu Picchu high in the Andes. Then south to Arequipa and Juliaca, for the burial towers of Sillustani, the floating island of the Uros and the Sun & Moon Islands on Lake Titicaca.

 

Day 01 - Arrive in Lima, transfer to selected hotel.
Day 02 - City tour of the modern and colonial areas of Lima well-known as the “City of the Kings”. Visit the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), founded in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, conqueror of Peru, Government Palace, City Hall, the Cathedral and the House of "El Oidor". Continue to other colonial architectural jewels, such as Torre Tagle Palace and Osambela House.(B)
Day 03 - Visit the Archaeological museum, Puruchuco archaeological site and the world famous Gold Museum, where the private collection of Mr. Migueal Mujica-Gallo, consisting of fabulous gold objects and precious stones, can be admired.(B)
Day 04 - Flight to Chiclayo. Visit the Bruning Museum, with an extraordinary collection of pottery and gold artifacts and Tucume, the Valley of the 26 pyramids. (B)
Day 05 - Full day tour of Sipan, one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the last 20 years, Monsefu and Chiclayo city. (BL)
Day 06 - After breakfast land transfer to Trujillo, visiting El Brujo, an ancient monument of the Moche culture built between 0-600 A.D. Overnight at selected hotel. (B)
Day 07 - Full day colonial Trujillo city tour, Chan Chan, the capital of Chimu empire and the largest adobe mud brick settlement in the world and nearby beach of Huanchacoyou. (BL)
Day 08 - Visit to the Sun and Moon temples, important center of Moche culture. Flight to Lima and overnight. (B)
Day 09 - Lima/Cuzco/Yucay. Early morning flight to Cuzco. Guided tour of the Sacred valley, the village of Pisac and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. Colorful Andean Villages and Pisac, a unique typical town, which is filled with locals in their colorful traditional costumes trading goods after a traditional mass and procession. The highlight of this day, a visit to the fortress of Ollantaytambo that guarded the Inca Empire from the fierce jungle Indians. Overnight. (BL)
Day 10 - Machu Picchu guided tour with lunch and overnight. visit the most magnificent citadel of Machu Picchu, elected one of the new 7 Wonders of the World. Hiram Bingham discovered the Lost City of the Incas, in 1911; it consists of an enormous city hidden on a spectacular green mountain plateau surrounded by three towering peaks, while llamas roam on its slopes. Day 11 - Day at leisure to further explore the ruins or climb Wayna Picchu. Return to Cuzco and overnight. (B)
Day 12 - City and nearby ruins tour: amazing colonial city built on the foundations of the Inca palaces, Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral, Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, temple of Kenko and Tambomachay, known as the "Baths of the Inca". (B)
Day 13 - Free day in Cuzco to explore the city on your own. (B)
Day 14 - Flight to Arequipa, that lies in the Andes mountains, at an altitude of 2,380 meters above sea level; the snow-capped volcano El Misti overlooks the city. The city has many colonial Spanish buildings built of sillar, a pearly white volcanic rock, from which it gets the nickname La Ciudad Blanca ("The White City"). Visit the city and the famous Santa Catalina convent. (B)
Day 15 - Visit to the Andean Sanctuaries Museum where Juanita, the amazing Inca frozen mummy is kept in a glass-walled freezer chamber. Overnight. (B)
Day 16 - Flight to Juliaca and transfer to Puno. On the way, visit to the Sillustani burial tombs, circular stone towers used as graves for nobles and their belongings in pre-Inca times. (B)
Day 17 - Visit the Titicaca Lake, the highest navigable lake in the world and Islands of Uros Indians, built on layers of the totora reeds, hence the name "floating island". Here the Uros indians live as they have done for generations, seeking out a living by fishing and selling handicrafts.Afternoon flight to Lima. Farewell dinner at excellent restaurants such as La Casta Verde or Las Brujas de Cachiche. (Optional)
Day 18 - Transfer to the airport for your international flight returning to the U.S.
